Chicago is one of Broadways most popular musicals. It has won six Tony Awards and has been made into a film as well, starring Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zelweiger and Richard Gere. The musical features some of the best dancing on Broadway, choreographed by Ann Reinking. According to the New York Times it is “the best musical in town”. The story of Chicago deals with adultery, murder and showbiz. It starts of by showing how Velma Kelly, a vaudevillian, has shot her sister who used to perform along with her. Velma had caught her sister with her husband. She shows no remorse and she performs the famous song “All That Jazz”. At the same time another girl, Roxie Hart kills a nightclub regular, Fred Casely, whom she was rather intimate with. Her unsuspecting husband takes the blame because she convinces him that Fred was a burglar. Both the women land up at the same women’s prison filled with a number of other murderers. The prison is looked after by a matron, “Mama” Morton who follows a system of mutual aid, which works very well for her and the inmates. Enter Billy Flynn who is the most famous lawyer who can get anyone acquitted for the right price. There is animosity building between the two girls, Velma and Roxie as each one tries to outdo the other. If Velma makes the headlines one day then Roxie makes sure she’s there the next. Velma is really mad when Roxie manages to hire her lawyer, the famous Billy Flynn. Roxie becomes the darling of Chicago with her supposed tragic story. Velma is pushed in to the background. She asks Roxie to star with her in a recreation of her sister act after they are acquitted and Roxie turns her down. Soon another story of a sordid crime of passion makes the headlines, overshadowing hers. Roxie decides to fake a pregnancy to gain the limelight back. Velma is amazed at how resourceful Roxie is and how she always manages to bounce back. Eventually Billy gets Roxie acquitted as promised. As soon as she is free, another sensational crime takes away all the attention from her and she is soon forgotten. In the end, she and Velma team up for that sister act after all. The current Broadway cast of Chicago includes Bianca Marroquin as Roxie, Brenda Braxton as Velma and Joey Lawrence as Billy Flynn. It is directed by Walter Bobbie with a book by John Kander and Fred Ebb. Chicago opened on November 14, 1996 and has completed ten years on Broadway. It has won a number of awards including six Tony Awards, one Grammy and five Drama Desk Awards. Chicago is running for its eleventh year on Broadway at the Ambassador Theater. How To Buy A CRT TV Although LCD and Plasma TVs are the rage now, the old Cathode Ray Tube TV still has some die-hard devotees. There is still some life left in this old dinosaur, and despite dire predictions by some, you can still find them being sold in your favorite electronics superstore. To help you make a wise decision about purchasing your next set, we've included the following tips and advice. 1) Novelty ? As said before, CRT TVs are considered by so many people to be obsolete. Since this is the case, why don't you just ride on the concept and find the most outrageous CRT TV you can find. Try to find one of those CRT TVs which are very small in size. Find a huge CRT TV. Find a CRT TV which has buttons that few people even know the function for. Of course, buying for the sake of novelty can be quite fun, but it isn't exactly going to have you end up with something that's at least close to the flat screens of today. 2) Look for surplus shops ? If you want to get a huge discount on a CRT TV set, then you should probably go to a surplus shop. A surplus shop is where excess production and stocked products are sold. Since these are surplus products, you will be able to find a CRT TV set from them at a very low price. Looking for a surplus shop is not really hard. Look for a place that has plenty of the same stuff about, and you're there. Another place in your area you might want to gather some information is the open surplus shops. This'll help you save a huge amount of time and gas money. 3) Get a discount ? You should always remember to try and negotiate for the CRT TV set. Negotiation should be quite easy since a lot of stores like this are selling old-school CRT TV merely to get rid of their old stock and make room for flat screens. You should be very careful when negotiating, though, as some store owners will more likely try to scam you face to face. You need to learn how to discern the true value of a CRT TV set before you make your initial offer. It will assist you in learning how honest is the dealer. You should definitely make sure that you know when to walk away and when to jump in at a deal. 4) Look for technology ? Just because you are buying CRT TV sets do not mean you have to settle for old technology. People have not stopped developing CRT TV sets just because of the demand of flat screen TVs. Today, you will be able to find CRT TV sets which are near in quality to the standard of flat screens. By following these few tips, you should be able to make sure that you are not wasting your cash on an extinct dinosaur of an appliance. Rather, you will be investing your money on something you can truly use. ------ Straight Talk About LCD TV, Plasma TV, HDTV, DLP TV and more... What is PC Satellite TV? Here is a new twist on an old idea. With technological advances, being able to watch TV on your PC improved along with it. You were able to watch TV through your PC with the right video card for a long time now but you can also watch satellite tv if you have the right software. Now, there is no hardware required. All you need is a decent PC with a broadband internet connection and away you go into the land of thousands of channels via satellite. For you people who are still using dialup connections, I wouldn't recommend that you purchase software until you upgrade. You can try and use dialup but it'll be much better if you use broadband. You are actually watching TV using the internet so faster is always better. Watching satellite tv is a lot like listening to satellite radio through a media player which is also an option or you if you want to do this. Only now, its video and sound coming through your PC. The quality of picture is pretty good too. Its not as clear as watching DVDs but its clarity is good, nevertheless, and always getting better. Some of you video savvy users may be able to get better quality out of your PCs. A lot of PC users are watching hundreds of channels for free using PC satellite software. Thats what made me curious about it. I like gadgets like this. There aren't any monthly fees involved but you do have to buy the software. There are a lot of channels you can get. You get: Sports, News, Movies, Music, Weather, Kids Channels, Educational, Shopping, satellite Radio Stations... anywhere in the world. You wont be able to watch them all or will take a lot of time to get through all of the channels. So there's plenty of variety. Don't expect big name channels like MTV and the like, though you will find channels exactly like it. You will come across some interesting channels that you cant find on cable or Dish Network, etc... It is available in different languages as well, even though this is only useful if you happen to speak and prefer a different language to watch your channels with. Your install the software on your PC or laptop and that turns it into satellite TV receiver with 1000s of channels. You can use your video card hardware to watch it on your regular television too if you have a TV output connection on it. This software isn't particularly expensive but, like anything else, you do get what you pay for and some are much better than others. There are several brands available these days which seem to run between $30 - $50. I recommend the Titanium edition of Satellite TV For PC software because it has over 4000 channels for $99.95. It's much better than your local cable bill which costs you that much on a monthly basis. You buy this software once and enjoy over and over. This particular software comes out with bigger and better packages as well, so you're not stuck having the same old software for years on end if you choose to upgrade. It's really very interesting software, fun, and entertaining. I recommend trying it out at least, for sure! ------ To see reviews of some existing satellite tv software, go to: http://www.pcsatellitetv1.com |
